Editorial policy
Sources
Numbers come from peer-reviewed research, official guidelines (such as the U.S. Physical Activity Guidelines, WHO and FAO reports) and standard reference lists like the 2024 Adult Compendium of Physical Activities. Each guide ends with its sources. Where research disagrees, we say so rather than pick the convenient answer.
App comparisons
Rankings of apps are based on what each app documents: features, free-tier limits and list prices on the maker's own pages, checked on the date shown in the guide. We do not claim lab tests we have not run, and we do not publish user reviews or ratings we did not collect. Rankings reflect our editorial judgement for a general reader with a calorie target; each entry says who it suits best, including the apps that are not first.
Independence
No app maker pays for coverage or position, and the site carries no advertising or affiliate links.
Updates and corrections
Every guide shows the date it was last revised. When an app changes its features or prices, or we find an error, we update the page and its date. Substantive changes to a ranking are noted in the guide itself.
